Recommendations for Integration:
This activity is designed for the first semester of a two-semester algebra-based college physics course. However, high school courses, one-semester conceptual courses, and/or the first semester of the calculus-based sequence would likely find this useful..
Depending on how the course is structured, this could likely fit within the early introduction to motion. We expect that students already have experience with numerical and graphical addition and subtraction of vectors. While this RWLO contains all information needed to complete the activities, it is likely not sufficient if students have never worked with trigonometry and vectors. There are some useful links in the Supplemental Resources area that would serve as remediation and/or review for these topics. This RWLO is roughly based on an activity created for CIESE called Navigational Vectors (this site requires a username and password to access).
